In order that the replies of our two governmenta

to the Chinese proposals should be so far as possible

the same, H.M.G. will await a further communication

from the United States Government before sending

an answer to the Chinese Government.

It should be added in conslusion that apart

from the questions of common interest to the United

States and Great Britain and India, the Chinese

Government have asked for the inclusion in Article 5

of the Sino-British tresty of additional clauses

terminating the Convention for the Extension of the

Hong Kong Territory signed at Feking in 1898.
